Just about to purchase one of these with a Sigma 50mm 1.4 in the morning, anything I should know before I part with my hard earned??

Not a lot! The new A57 has just surfaced, its 16MP so a little better at High ISO and doesn't have the OLED EVF, but just thought I'd mention it!

And check the Sigma is compatible, a bunch of their lenses didn't work with the A65/A77 so they did a service update, newer stock should state its A65/A77 compatible, so check if its an affected lens!

Other then that, the 16-50 f/2.8 is stunning for the money!
 
From the looks of the recent DPR preview pics, I'd say the a57 might have quite a significant high-ISO advantage. However, given the price difference I'd still go for the a65. At lower ISOs that 24mp is very very good.

If you downres the A65's 24MP to the 57's 16MP I don't think that there is much in it.
The jpeg engine on the A57 looks to be an improvement though.

& the A65 obviously has additional features.

I don't think the JPEG engine is different, it's just able to take advantage of the inherently lower noise of the A57's larger pixel size, but I could be wrong

If you look on the DPReview studio comparison tool look at the A57 ISO3200->6400 and the A65 ISO1600-ISO3200,

You can see that despite the Raw still showing detail in all those shots, the JPEG engine at some point just goes into noise reduction overdrive.. I would say that considering the expect extra noise of the 24MP sensor, 1 ISO step seems to tie in with where the tipping point seems to occur.

That and the fact the A57 is touted as having the same image processor as the A65 also hints it shouldn't be radically different.

But as you say, when compared at the same image size, the noise isn't that much worse at all, and quite rightly, the extra 24MP is very welcome at lower ISO's.. not to mention the OLED EVF is a step up..
 
Compare the a57 DPR samples with the a55. In RAW, they're about the same. In jpg, the a57 is considerably better.
 
Got it!! .... the battery is charging as we speak :) Got it for £700 with the lens kit included, don't think the kit lens will be up to much so will be selling it i think ;)
 
it's OK but unlikely to show off the 24MP to it's best.

Congrats :)

Let us know how you get on with the kit lens, they usually feel really cheap but can still perform pretty decently with care!
