off,only on tripod and use 10 sec timer., everything else on is fine, even if on a monopod,

If it is a long exposure, definitely off. I did a test a couple of years ago and, on a 30 second exposure, it actually looked like extreme camera shake! 
On an exposure of a couple of seconds, it didn't seem to make any difference at all. That said, having it switched on when on a tripod gives no benefit at all so you may as well get into the habit of switching it off.

Depending on model, there is possibly no need to use the 10 second timer unless you want to get yourself in the picture.
The two second timer on the A700 locks the mirror up at the start and takes the exposure at the end of the two seconds, giving the equivalent of a MLU setting. The A900 (and presumably the A850 as well) has an MLU option on the drive menu.
I use a remote release cable when shooting on a tripod in any case.
