I am wanting to format the bloody thing but cant get it to boot to disk, I have tried all the usual keys like F9 delete and F12 but none of these get me into bios to change the boot parameter..........any idea

Why have a different key though ........the standard key is del to get into bios or are sony special lol

There is no real standard key apart from F8 to boot in safe mode, each manufacturer uses something different. In the past I have come across laptops that DEL, F2, F10, F12 and some old Toshibas use C or L I think

you don't always need to access the boot menu to boot from disk, I find on most that if you put in the cd or DVD with the OS on then it will ask you to press any key to boot from cd

only if the cd/dvd drive is above the hd in the boot order.

at the end of the day its down to the manufacturer of the motherboard/bios that can dictate the boot options keys, F8 on startup for windows options is hard coded into the windows software startup.

A lot of modern mobo's have a dedicated key to change the boot order without fishing around in the BIOS. On a Dell it's F12.
