I know I know, another which tripod thread. :shake:

What in your opinion is the best tripod you can buy for under £100? Lets talk about just legs since the budget isn't so big!

I'm looking for a sturdy tripod - it doesn't have to be particularly light or small since I have a gorillapod for the times when I need to travel light, but it needs to be a steady, dependable tripod. I have a gorillapod for the times when I have to travel light.

It doesn't have to go high, but I do need it to go low.

Just looking at the Jessops page its confusing me - all the below tripod legs are available below £ 100:

Giottos 9351B
Giottos MTL9271B
Manfrotto 055XDB
Manfrotto 055XB
Manfrotto 190XPROB
Manfrotto 190XB ALU

Another to consider is SLIK PRO 700DX

Legs will be within your budget and some places will do the 700 3 way head as well for not much more. I ended up replacing the head (there's nothing wrong with it) but the legs are very sturdy (I prefer them to my Manfrotto 055) and are great if you're tall.

Thanks for that, just had a look at reviews and whilst it seems very good, I just read several which suggest that its not the best tripod for people who aren't very tall (overkill apparently?) and I'm average height so I probably won't be able to take advantage of it.....???

BTW very impressive that a child can hang off it though??!?!?!!!
 
The legs are adjustable so not being tall is a non-factor. OTOH they are heavy so they aren't the best for hiking. The Man 055 series are good but the Giotto's 9351 are better if you're into macro (not positive but think the horizontal column does 180 degrees compared to manfrotto's 90 degrees).
 
I was going to go for a Red Snapper, but £15 postage for Northern Ireland is a bit steep.

EDIT: Found them on eBay with cheaper postage

They charge the same for shipping to Northern Ireland on ebay as well check out the small print on there listing the advertised delivery cost is for uk mainland only.
 
I'll second Redsnapper, good solid tripod. They are TP member, contact Joe and see if he can come up with a deal and lower postage

I also noticed the price on the Bay doesn't include the head. What a pain. I really like the look of the Red Snapper too. :(

Thanks for replies guys- I was considering redsnapper but would like some more in-depth info on them from people who use them- especially what don't you like about them- I know everybody goes on about what good value they are but I get the impression most of the people who buy them are people buying their first tripod... so would like advice from people who have used one for some time and possibly had experience using other more mainstream tripods if possible!?!?!?
 
I bought a redsnapper after several here recommended them and after 6 weeks i have a floppy head so have emailed them, i dont think im the only one either.
