Looking at recent bodies / lenses etc...

The EF lens will fit any of the EOS cameras - Full frame bodies (5D for example) or Crop sensor bodies (450D, 7D for example)
The EF-S lenses were designed for and only fit the Crop sensor bodies (450D, 7D for example)

...and EX is a Sigma lens designation. Lets not start with OS / IS / HSM / DO / APO etc etc!

The manufacturers all have glossaries of their terminology on their websites, and none of them agree on the letters to use..
