Ok, so let me start by saying that I know this has been covered before and I have searched and read the relevant posts but they didn't answer all my questions.

Having bought an F5 recently, and loving the way it handles, I'm thinking of buying a battery grip for my D200. Now the genuine Nikon is more expensive then I would be willing to pay but there are plenty of alternatives on ebay.
I've found this one and it looks identical to that of the genuine Nikon grip.

I guess what I'm looking for is any further comments on battery grips and the copies off ebay.

Not all of the pics are of the same grips on that advert. Some have got shutter buttons, some haven't... That in itself would make me stay away

My mistake, I just looked at one of the pics and from the angle couldn't see the button :bonk:

For £20 more I'd still rather have a secondhand real one though :shrug:
 
I paid £50 for my mint s/h genuine grip, but they do generally go for £70-90. I wouldn't be without it though.
 
Sorry, can't help you directly with this grip (as I'm Canon), but I personally would only buy a genuine one, esp as you can probably pick up a good second hand one for not much more money :thumbs:
 
I bought the Nikon one and to be honest, it's nothing special, other than it having a Nikon sticker on the base. That said, for the amount of use it gets (about 60% of my stuff is done portrait) I didn't want to guess on a 3rd party one that may fall to bits.

The extra battery option is definitely a good thing with the D200 - battery life isn't one of its strong points. The AA adaptor tray is good too, but AAs don't last that long. Still, it's good to have for extreme emergencies.

The reason I asked why you thought you needed a grip!

I had one, aand found it nothing but a B nuisance.. Far from balancing the camera it added considerable weight.. A normal fully charged battery and a spare is all I require for more thata days shooting.

Apologies, my mistake :)

Having slept on it I don't think I'd be comfortable taking the risk and I can't justify paying full whack for the genuine grip, even second hand, so I guess I'll go without.
