Sound problem

Hi all,

I have an irritating problem, but not a show stopper. I have a Toshiba Satellite P100-216 laptop, with fully up-to-date Vista. Everytime I start up my laptop the sound isn't working, I open control panel, then device manager, then right click on my computer name and select "Scan for hardware changes" (only discovered this solves the problem after days of trial and error), after a few seconds the sound miraculously bursts into life. But I shouldn't have to do this everytime I start my laptop should I?

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Pete

No you shouldn't, try downloading the latest audio drivers from the Toshiba website and see if that cures the problem.

Or check the Event Viewer under the System and Application logs.

System will tell you if it's failing on startup due to a problem on that side and if it has an Application with it and that's causing the problem then Application will tell you.

However if it's picking it up when you do scan for new devices then it's possible the contacts on the hardware could be faulty but need to explore the OS and drivers etc first.
