Has anyone been to Sousse in Tunisia? Mr Kelack and I are looking for holidays and want something different to our normal Greek Islands holidays

We want something where we can spend 2 weeks exploring culture and architecture and history and have found that Tunisia fits this and is within our budget. I've been to Morocco before but many (20) years ago.

So Tunisia recommendations? Preferably B&B but have found a few that are Half Board and cheaper than Greek Islands so not too fussed about missing dinner in the hotel a few times to go to a restaurant iyswim

tia :)

I've been. I stayed at the Marhaba and it was lovely. Beautiful pools, not far from the beach.
Friends stayed in the Kaiser which was dire.

There is a newish 5 star hotel out the back of the Marhaba and it's awesome. Go there if you can! It's the Movenpick. It's lovely!

The souk/bazar is rubbish. Think poundland, dont bother!

Oh, and it smells. They have a serious drain problem!!

Tunisia is right off the bottom of my holiday destination list.

We also thought it was good value, but regretted it. Both got food poisoning.

Also advised some friends not to go, but they got different advice and still went. Fair to say they wont be going again either.

Thanks for your replies everyone. Mixed reviews really

Not sure what to do. We want to do something different :(

Have you considered maybe: Montenegro? Bulgaria? Romania?

Had my heart set on Tunisia  but will look at those suggestions. Thanks Tori

Did Tunisia, specifically Sousse, in 1981. There's a good reason I don't want to go back, although I accept it may have changed

After having "Bobby Charlton" & "fish & chips" shouted at me by every vendor we walked past & someone actually grabbing the wife's boob, we will not be returning!!!

Was never like that in Swanage!

We've done Tunisia three times now, most recently last year in Posrt El Kantoui (just up the road from Sousse). We love the country. Theres loads of culture and some of teh scenary is stunning. Last year we did a round teh country trip for 2 days camped 10 miles into the Sarhara, then across the salt lake and up into the Atlas mountains in Jeeps...wow. I got some cracking shots. Check out El Jem, fantastic place.

It's not all bad Kelly. We did have a good time, but just make sure you get a good hotel, serving decent food :)
