south shields pier

Seems very grey to me... there's a big halo around the pier too.

The wall heading into the shot is a distraction, especially as you lose depth of field towards the camera.
 
Its rather flat lacking whites and black.

Bright contrasty light helps with this too many people think B&W is for days with flat light.
