Wales South Wales Pit Gear

SPending some time in South Wales soon - Pontypridd/Cardiff/Ebbw Vale/etc.

Just wondering if there are any pit heads still standing in the area - I quite like taking industrial landscape photographs.

Big Pit is a preserved pit in South Wales, not sure the exact location, but google will! I think Tower Colliery is still standing but you'll have to ask them nicely to go in and take pictures (unless you want to do it urbex style!).

Big Pit at Blaenavon, Rhondda Heritage Park (near Pontypridd) and Cefn Coed Colliery Museum all worth a visit.

Penallta near Ystrad Mynach - two headgear - no ropes.

Worth a visit.

I don't know if this is to late (first post here too!) but there's an old washery in Trehafod (about 1.5 mi from Pontypridd train station) that has its head gear but no cabling.

The Big Pit is in Blaenavon, and is free entry, Blaenavon itself is a Heritage site and well worth a visit.
