I get a spark from my Dell Desktop's PSU. Unfortunately the PC is out of warranty. My options please?

could you be more specific?

A PSU is reasonably easy to replace, try dabs.com.

if it's just when putting the cable in, nothing to worry about really, as long as it's not leaving scortch marks or something.

If it's sparking randomly, just bash in a new psu from dabs or ebuyer or similar :)

edit: yeah, dell also often use strange shape psu's for the fun of it...

and they can also be wired differently from normal psu's too, so a replacement with a generic one might not be an option.

Apologies for not being specific. :(

When I turn it on......... Also it trips other sockets in child's nursery, sitting room etc. :shake:

Going with replacing the PSU option. Lets hope that fixes the problem.

I'd replace it - if it does blow it could take out other components with it including the motherboard.

Is the voltage selector at the back of the PSU set to 230V or 110V?

I know its recessed and the changes of hitting it accidentally are slim but its worth checking...

thatd blow the power supply completely.. trust me ive had some joker to that to me before.. nearly killed me (or at least made me need new undies).. lol

It looks like the PSU is on the way out but they are easy to replace for someone who knows how to upgrade a pc. As others have said Dell can use non standards PSUs in some of their systems so it would be worth checking ebay for one and asking a friend who's handy with a screwdriver to swap them over.

If you haven't got a friend who can fit it or you can't do it yourself, get the PSU and take it to a shop and ask them to fit it. If you take it to a shop as it is they might claim the whole pc is knackered and try to get you to make expensive purchases you don't need.

It will be a 5 minute job to swap them, if that.

Replaced the naff one with a brand new EZ-Cool PS-05 for 30 quid. :D
