Looking for a desktop PC, the only applications will be Lightroom, Photo Mechanic and MS Office 365.

Not an IT expert by any stretch but looking at various threads I'm thinking:

i7 processor (would welcome suggestions on exact spec)

16GB RAM (would Optane be any benefit?)

256GB SSD to run operating systems

1TB HDD

I already have a protocol for on-site/off-site back up.

Budget wise I'm looking around the £1,000 mark.

Also looking for supplier recommendations?

Thanks for any help,

GC

I'd take a look at www.novatech.co.uk - good machines, good prices and honest advice.

Do you need a monitor? If not, I think you will get a very good pc for around the £800 mark - one that will last you for the next few years at least.

As quoth quoth.

For what you want to do your spec is a bit overpowered.

I paid £650 for my current desktop (no screen) and it runs all those apps no problem
plus some mega violence gaming.

Supplier was PC Specialist and I was fine with them.

Thanks @Quoth, the Raven and @zendog, I'll take a look at both suppliers.

Already have a decent monitor and don't do any games:cool:

I'm not sure it's possible to have an over powered computer when it comes to lightroom! Captain Picard on the bridge of the Enterprise would still be twiddling his thumbs while it loads the next image...

I don't even have time to twiddle one thumb - seriously no noticeable delay at all.

Could it be something wants changing in your settings?

Quick update to get this thread squared away.

Bought from Novatech, thanks for the heads up on these guys(y)

Spec is:

i7 9700K 3.6GHz processor
32GB RAM
512GB Samsung SSD
2TB HDD

LR now flies through D850 RAW in a fraction of the time my old machine took to process D500 files.

How much was that if you don't mind saying?

I am looking to upgrade next month and looked at Novatech. I'm aiming for the £500 - £600 mark so might have to go for an i5 or AMD equivalent.

Paid £1,148 but had added a graphics card and expedited build too.
