Hi all,

hope this is the right section of the forum to post this (!).

He who pays the bills wants to buy me a photography course for crimbo and I fancy a speedlight course - something I could use practically.

Anyone done one recently and can recommend?

Thanks

I think a few people attended Zack Arias' one light workshop. That is several months (if not more than a year) back. Just search the forum.

Hi,
I see you're local to me. Can I suggest you look at the courses at Blackthorn, which are just near Cricklade.

Whilst they don't specifically cover just speedlites, they do run courses at the weekend on portrait shooting, covering all aspects of lighting. Simon is a great tutor.

Cheers

McNally's books are good - probably The HotShoe diaries would be best for this

have you had a look at the Canon "experience seminars" specialising in canon equipment, theres a Taking control of your eos flash workshop

Went on a great course today run by David Purslow Photography http://www.davidpurslow.com/
Well worth keeping an eye out for his lighting courses thoroughly recommend them!

Thanks for all your suggestions everyone. I have researched all the links and more. Some of the costs are, frankly, eye-watering - add petrol and accomodation and there is not change out of £500 for a day's training on speedlights.

Thanks Andy for your link - £95 is more realistic and it is reasonably close - looks like I'll try that one.

Is anyone else shocked by the price of some of these courses? and for that matter the cost of equipment? I have been looking for a collapsible beauty dish and can only find 2 in this country - £100 apart in price for the same thing - baffling!

anyway- sunny day today - off ashootin'

Thanks Sarah,

theeyes,

I have the Damien McGillicuddy beauty dish and its beautifully put together, I use it for weddings all the time and have won a few gold awards with images shot with it. I dont know of another one.

When I was looking for one I waited for months trying to find a cheaper one but then in January last year I went to a convention in London and bumped into DM there and had a play with the light, I brought it the second I got home.

Yes its expensive but its amazing. if you have not seen it just google it - I dont think I can post a link to it with it being advertising.

sometimes it is worth spending the extra money
