Speedlight crossbar type holder - does such a thing exist??

Hi all. I'm after a speedlight holder that would fit on top of a lightstand and hold up to four speedlights in a row. These would then be fired through a large scrim to produce a really large and powerful light source.

But I'm buggered if I can find such a thing anywhere.

Does anyone know if such a thing exists and where I could find one?

If any creative souls out there can make me one I'll even pay for it :)

I should point out that I already have a lastolite tri-flash bracket which holds three flash guns but they are grouped too close together for my liking and the way they are positioned makes it hard for the sensor to see the trigger.

Hope someone can help.

Wasn't there a photographer taking motorcross shots that made his own 4 or 8 Nikon Flash mount?
 
Cheers mate - The Joe McNally one is exactly what I want BUT it's nearly £300 and they only supply if WITH the skylite diffuser. If you already have the diffuser (which I do) Lastolite can't supply the bracket on it's own. I had a good old moan to their rep last Friday at the SWPP event :)

The one you found on ebay is the best I've seen so far. The flash grouping still looks a tad close but better than I've seen before. Shame it's in China and takes forever to get here :(
 
Try an ironmongers or engineering shop- shouldn't take more than an hour to knock one up if you show them the stand and the hot shoe mounts and give them an idea of what you want. 2 or 3 ways it could be done depending on how you would like it to work- e.g. ability to rotate flash unit or would you merely turn the stand etc
 
I've got a flat, slotted bar somewhere that I bought from Ebay that's designed to mount two cameras onto a tripod, however it was fairly easy to add a few stroboframe-type clamps to turn it into a flash bracket, total cost would probably be under thirty quid to replicate it....
 
Cheers Dr O. I think you're right that some sort of engineer shop or ironmongers could know these up quite easily. But it sounds like Graham knows more....

Graham - you're idea sounds good. Having this set up mounted to a tripod might actually be better as a tripod is more stable than a light stand. So the bar would sit on top of a tripod and could hold four speedlights in coldshoes - right?

You could attach it to either a tripod or a lightstand, I can't remember how much the bar was, probably a tenner, four coldshoes, 20 quid and four thumbscrews about £5-10 would do it.

If you can locate a suitable bar drop me a pm I might be able to help you out re coldshoes/thumbscrews etc, I'm sure I've got a box of such things kicking around somewhere....

As I said above, the triflash brackets are all very well but the flashes seem a bit too close together for what I had on mind. But with the new (much safer) screw in style coldshoe's and the ability to swivel them to ensure I/R has a better chance I'm beginning to think that might be the best way to go.

Thanks so much Graham. I really am rubbish at DIY etc so putting something together myself might a nightmare. But I'll let you know if I decide to go that way. Cheers mate.

I think the bracket I've got started out as something like this with coldshoes mounted onto the screws...
