Speedlite 600EX & Speedlite 600EX-RT confusion

I already have a Speedlite 480EX II have now been given a used Speedlite 580EX (not 580EX II).

Looking around for details of the 580EX specs I've found that Canon now have a 600EX and a 600EX-RT, both of which look rather nice and are tempting me to sell the 480 and 580 and buy one of the 600s. What is confusing, though, is that they both appear to have the same specs with the addition of radio on the RT, yet the RT is cheaper.

Anyone care to enlighten me on what I might be missing?

A further thought: will my 5D3 and/or 60D fire the 600EX-RT if it's off-camera?

The 5DIII won't as it doesn't have on board flash.

I know the 7D does, but it uses the on board flash, so is still line of sight.
You would need the ST-E3-RT to use the radio side of things.

The same goes for the 60D

Thanks. The reference to the 7D is interesting as I'm thinking of getting either a 70D or a 7DII when it appears (and if the spec turns out to match current predictions!).
