Speedlite Help

I have a 40D and a 430ex speedlite

I am unable to set the mode on the speedlite to ETTL, the only options I'm getting are M or TTL, when I try to alter the flash settings via the cameras menu, I'm getting a message saying the flash is either incompatible or not turned on!

Anyone got any ideas?

Sometimes my 580ex only shows up as TTL, a quick wiggle of it on the hotshoe and it works again...I should clean my contacts as they're full o' muck!!

I'll give that a bash mate, cheers. The camera did get a bit wet on Saturday, might have affected it!

Are you using custom functions?

I lost ETTL as i had used a custom function.

Cleared them all, and then re-enstated the c.Fn one by one.

Thanks for the help, a wee wiggle and it started working okay!
