Speedlite or not?

I would say my main area of photography is portraits, and I have a white background/stand, and two shoot through umbrellas. My next purchase was going to be a tripod, but now I'm thinking that I would be better off buying a speedlite. Does anyone agree with this, or disagree?

If you have two shoot through umbrellas and no other lights then I'd think some sort of lighting would be prudent.....:suspect:

No point in having shoot through brollies if you have no lights to shoot through them.

Sorry I didn't make myself clear. I have lights to use with the umbrellas, I meant to use on camera. I want to light the background with one umbrella which leaves one for the subject, so would it be beneficial to have a flashgun on camera. I'm new to all this so don't really know what I'm talking about.
