I have a bit of a dilema at this moment intime I have a sum of money about £750 to upgrade my kit. And not sure what to get.

I like taking photos of insects, landscapes birds and at archery tournaments.

I dont believe that a single lens will do everything but what would you get to up grade.

I have a Canon 550 and some kit lenses which I got withe camera. A canon 75mm - 300mm, 50mm portrait lens and an 18mm to 55mm lens. Non of the lens have optical stabilisation.

I would suggest getting yourself a Macro lens 1:1, in your price range that would be Tamron 90mm or the Sigma 105mm personally I have the 90mm Tamron VC and absolutely love it, though there are many on here that love the Sigma. My current Landscape and general use lens is the 24-105L lens again is good and can get it cheap as they are sold as unused Kit lenses from 5d mkII/I.

If you like shooting archery and sports etc I would get a long lens.

Perhaps a second hand 400mm 5.6 or a Sigma 150-500mm. Both should be within budget. Also if you got the sigma you'd be able to sell the 75-300 too, as the sigma covers most of this range and also has stabilisation.

Ive got a good tripod but and just got a monopod which I'm liking a lot, and found some heads on ebay which will go on monopod.

What do you think of the sigma 18 - 250mm macro? Just seen online.

I'd pass on that Sigma unless you're desperate to only carry one lens. That's a big zoom range and I don't think you'll be very satisfied with the compromises involved- in particular f6.3 at the tele end.
You don't say what you dislike about your current kit, but from looking at some reviews the quality of your tele zoom appears to be the weak link? The wide zoom seems well thought of, and I have the 50 1.8- so I know that's fine if a bit plasticy.

That leaves you looking at macro and wildlife/sports. What you go for will depend a lot on what's more important to you, but I'd consider these to offer a good upgrade and good bang for your buck:
A set of extension tubes to use with the 50mm for macro shots ~ £100
Sigma 105 macro OS £360 new, £250 second hand
Canon 70-200 f4 non IS £400 s/h
Canon 70-200 f4 IS £750ish s/h
Canon 70-200 f2.8 non-IS £750ish s/h
There's some love out there for the Tamron 70-200 2.8 reviewed by Phil Young somewhere on here too.
Canon 300 f4 non-IS £550 ish s/h
Canon 300 f4 IS £800 ish s/h
Sigma 150-500 OS £650 new after £100 cashback

I've decided to get the sigma 150 - 500mm with the money.

And after a lot of reading either the sigma 105mm macro or a bit more overtime and the canon 100mm L series

Or add this to the macro instead of the telezooms as a compromise but still a very good walkabout and general lens.

Any combination of two of the above is in your budget range and come with a warranty from a reputable dealer.

Don't forget your cashback from Sigma on the 150-500.
I didn't think the Canon 100 was worth twice the money; happy with the Sigma.
