The dark area on the bee would make me cautious about increasing contrast as such, but I take BooBear's point. Perhaps a more indirect approach? For example, here is the effect of
a bit of Shadows, to bring up that dark area a bit, as preparation for
a mild S-Curve, which takes the dark area back down a bit, but also (the point of it) provides a bit more contrast for the mid tones, as well as enriching the colours a little
