Well just popped out to check if the washing was dry and noticed this little fella trying to hide his lunch from me! Well I've just bought a new tripod so I thought this'd be the perfect chance of testing it with the 300mm lens on macro!

Took quite a few shots, most of which were too blurred to use as these chaps don't hang about when getting their lunch ready!!!

300mm
f11
1/100
ISO 100
MF

What do you think? :)

Background's nice.

Since everyone goes on about depth of field (or lack of focus) in macro stuff, and since you had it on a tripod, why not just use the smallest aperture you could? Like f/22?

I tried that briefly but the exposure went down to about 1/8th with ISO100. f11 was the smallest I could get whilst retaining a decent shutter speed, it was quite windy and he was moving about quite a bit, it's an action shot believe it or not lol.

I did loose a lot of shots from not having the eyes in focus though.

Edit: Just been out to check and he's having a nice slurp from his fly milkshake at the moment! lol

nice one :)

i like macro shots like this with shallow DOF, works well for me, nice..
