Splitting iTune account

Yes
Missus Bloo and I have our own macs and iphones. Our iTunes setups share my mobileme account for payment purposes.

It was initially set up this way cos we didn't know better, m'lud. One advantage is that any paid-for app on one iphone is available for the other, should it be wanted.

The drawback is that music tracks are also shared :gag: And, today, an album pre-ordered by the missus ended up being downloaded to my itunes and couldn't be downloaded to hers. So, the time has come to split this account in half.

So the question is..... What's the best way of splitting this itunes account into two separate accounts? We both have mobileme accounts, albeit shared through the family pack, if that helps.

cant help you, but if you set up your macs to share itunes you can have music between them, so download to one and cherry pick from t'other?

I had a similar problem, and the solution isn't too hard.

You'll have to make a new iTunes account for the missus.

Both her mac and iPhone should be already authorised to play stuff bought on your account, so just make sure they're authorised to play stuff bought on her new account.

Lastly you'll need to authorise your mac and iPhone to be able to play stuff purchased on her account.

The key is that each iTunes account can be authorised on up to five devices, and that a single device can be authorised to access content from more than one account.

Depending on how long you've had the original account you may find you still have older devices on your authorised list, the easiest way to do this is to reset all of them, which you can do once per year.

I think also if you connect them using Home Sharing you can just drag and drop the files between computers (providing they are both authorised for the both accounts)
