Hey guys,

Recently got a D3000 as my first camera and it looks great!

Ideally though; I would like to try my hand at sports photography (Non-League football from the stands). However, I only have a budget of max £250 for the lens..

Can any of you football togs recommend a good starter lens that will be in my price range but will still do an adequate job? I've been looking at Tamron, Sigma etc. but am totally confused as to what to go for!

Buying secondhand is not a problem.

Thanks,

Rob.

You'll not get a lot nowadays for £250 Rob, but if you can stretch your budget a little bit then a used Nikon 70-300 VR should be within your grasp. It's still not going to be ideal, but it's probably about the best lens you'll get for the money to do what you require.

Okay thanks, will keep an eye out for a second hand 70-300.

Are Tamron and Sigma lenses any good?

Rob :)

Some are, some aren't :D

Another lens to consider, although it won't give quite as much reach, is the 55-200 VR Nikon, you'd have plenty of change left out of your £250 even if you bought a brand new one.

Thanks mate, but slightly out of my price range at the moment - being a 15 year old, only have around £250 spare at the moment :(

Sorry for double post - but does anyone know if a 55-200 VR would be any good for togging at a zoo? (Colchester if anyone has been before) Or would I be better getting a 70-300?

Rob :)
