I have just been up winter hill taking some snaps and noticed looking through the eye piece there were spots on the image to the left of the focal point. I changed lenses and it was still there I am at a loss on what to do any ideas please?

this is a close up of the problem, I have changed lenses and they are still there.

They look like 'dust bunnies' - bits of dust or dirt on the sensor itself.

I can see one lower left, and two upper right on the shot you show.

You may be able to activate a cleaning mode via the camera menu (one of the Nikon experts will able able to help there), otherwise you'll need to clean the sensor - again, hopefully someone with experience of cleaning a Nikon Sensor will be able to advise.
 
Oh bloody hell I have set it to clean image sensor on the menu but they are still there. I am not confident enough to be probing about with it.
 
You've got two alternatives. Either send it off for cleaning or put up with it by cloning the spots out when you edit the photos. As they will appear in the same place, you can clone one photo and then synchronise all the remaining images. :)
 
What's the safest way of cleaning dust on the sensor? I've seen these black spots on some of my photo's also.... Or is it better to send it off?
 
Had the same problem on D80 a friend cleaned it for me with a lenspen sensorklear.

This confuses me a bit as dust bunnies will be on the sensor so you shouldn't be able to see them when looking through an OVF. Crap in the OVF is very annoying but doesn't show up in shots.

Deffo got some dust bunnies though.

Have you tried a rocket blower? The nest step would be a clean with a swob or similar.
 
Lost my blower last weekend, I have some things that look like pointy ear buds but finer, and cleaning fluid. I have just been on youtube watching how to do it.

Rocket blowers often just move dust around or even worse can expel carbon dust from the inside of it, onto the sensor, I wouldnt go poking around with a pointy buds and fluid Julian you may regret it :nono: as below Arctic Butterfly are good and a lot cheaper than a new sensor :thumbs:

Phew, pleased about that,

your local camera shop will probably clean it for you, or send it away to be cleaned, but that means being without your camera for a few days, dont know about Nikon but canon will clean it free with in the first year with some models

Think I will take it to Wildings tomorrow to be on the safe side, (BE WITHOUT MY CAMERA FOR A FEW DAYS) have you gone mad Dave :-)
 
I would try the Rocket Air Blower if you have one available, and even if you don't, you can get one for about £10. ;)

I successfully used one for 3-4 years on two different DSLRs. I only needed a wet clean (Sensor Swabs) when I had some dried liquid on the sensor, which no amount blowing was going to get rid of. :( The dried liquid look doughnut shaped btw.

Whether you wet clean yourself or get someone else to do it is up to you. I chose myself as I could get all the gear for about £40, which gave me enough swabs for 6-12 cleans, depending on how careful I was doing it. Paying someone can be about £30+.
 
The dust spots are still present, I have called two shops and both said leave it with them for a few days, I dont want too :-(
 
Another vote for the Artic Butterfly here - I had terrible trouble in the summer with this (turned-out to be pollen from changing lens in the park - not a mistake I'll do again!). Rocket blower, sensor shake, etc didn't do anything. Got the Butterfly and it solved the problem straight away...not had any trouble since, but I give a wizz round every couple of months just to be sure.

Just make sure whoever you order from has stock - they seem to be in limited supply with long delays sometimes...
