Spray lens clearer

What on earth are you doing to your lenses, that makes you think this might be necessary?
 
well mainly it is a better way to remove grease from the lens... I do some spring cleaning every now and I then, I use my eclipse and gloves. Do you think it is not a good idea? Should I use the eclipse only for sensor cleaning?

Call me old fashioned, but I think it's usually better to try to avoid getting grease on the lens in the first place.
 
But if you insist on putting your greasy fingerprints all over the glass:

My colleagues and I clean hundreds of lenses per week, and I've tried all sorts of things over the last 5 years, but my essential kit is now:
(1) Rocket blower
(2) Single-use tissues
(3) Isopropyl alcohol

The vast majority of lenses and filters only need (1) and (2), plus a bit of breathing on the glass before applying the tissue. For tough problems such as very greasy fingerprints, a quick spray of (3) helps clear them up.

The key aspect, though, is the single-use tissues. I would never want to touch a lens with anything that might have tiny particles of dust or grit on it, because that could make things worse rather than better.
 
:plusone: for Stewart's cleaning regime (and he should know the best way to do it, if anyone does!) However, rather than a spray, I use a drop on a tissue - a spray could potentially get past the sometimes rudimentary dust seals of a lens and dilute the lubricants therein. On occasion, I've also used a product that is painted onto the front element, allowed to dry then peeled off. Can't remember the name of the goop but it does leave lenses sparkling clean!
 
Stuart, which single use tissues do you use, I have some but they seem to smear rather than clean.

I buy boxes of single use glasses cleaning tissues from Asda for £1. Each tissue is individually wrapped in a sealed pack and is already dampened like a wet wipe. Each box has around 40 tissues in it so I just grab a handful of tissues and dump them in my camera bag on the way out.

Alternatively, there's always my t-shirt...

A pack of Pec Pads and Eclipse would do the trick on the dirt if as Stewart says, rocket blower and single use cloth doesn't shift it

Yeah, that's what I use. However I start to doubt the effectiveness of the pec pad on glass. Anyway mine was just a simple curiosity.

Absolutely. I should have made that clear, do thanks. I spray the isopropyl alcohol onto the tissue rather than onto the lens. Don't want the lens to get too wet!

Kimtech science precision wipes. They come in boxes of 250 or so, costing about £3-4 per box. I buy them from RS Online.
 
Stewart, I thought you did not like cleaning the glasses with liquid...

...are these precision wipes better than the pec pad (I do not like them just because it is hard to get rid of the streaks with them)
