Squeezing the trigger on a 5D3

After having decided to look into the possibility of selling my 5D2, 7D and Canon 100-400 IS L and buying a 5D3 on friday, I decided to take the plunge and go for it. After a busy day and a half on the classifieds forum I now have my finger on the trigger and starting to squeeze. 1 more confirming message and the trigger will be pulled completely and I'm soon going to be the proud father of a new baby. Can't wait for it to be honest. I should of stopped with my 550D until the 5D3 was announced instead.

Nice one. Where are you ordering from mate?

I think it'll be Hdew cameras, where I got my 5D2 from last year. They're currently the cheapest I've seen and I know they give great service and it has a 3 year warranty.

I find it a bit odd that you would sell all that fab kit to buy one camera. But good luck and enjoy the new one.

Ryan, it's nice having all that kit but it does get a bit back breaking carrying it about. Since I got my Sigma 150-500 OS I've hardly used the 100-400 L (was literally a toss up between the 2 lenses in the first place and the Canon won by a head) and if I can get the best of both cameras in one body I'll be over the moon. Both the 7D and the 5D2 are fantastic cameras in their own right, but I always found that when using the 7D I wanted the IQ of the 5D2, and when using the 5D2 I wanted the AF of the 7D. Now I've got both in one camera and a less aching back.

Very nice - have you ordered yet ?

Can't wait to see what you think about it ...

Got ya Stuart. I forgot the mk III has the improved AF. Enjoy!!

Just gone from squeezing the trigger to hitting the target. Just ordered it from Hdew cameras for £2,850 with a 3 year warranty. The wife has bet me that I wont get through the warranty without wanting a new body, but I'm sure I'll manage to last it out. Just.

Were they in stock?

Agree!

I'm keeping my kit and spending the £3k on actually going to places to shoot with it, can have some great photo trips for that kind of dosh

Well as I've made the £3K from selling my kit I'll still be able to go out on some great photo trips anyway. Thinking of Cornwall later in the year maybe and as I've lightened the bag it'll be easier to carry. If it gives me as much of a buzz as when I got the 5D2 I'll still be trembling at christmas. Will make good use of my IS lenses then lol.

Doesn't say they are for Pre Order so hopefully by the end of the week I'll be taking it out for a cruise. Quite looking forward to it to be honest, and as it uses the same batteries and cards as the 5D2 and 7D I've got plenty to go with. I might just have a walk around with my old 550D in a few minutes, to get used to it again, in case there's a bit of a delay.

Welcome to the club! We need to start an owner's thread one of these days...

Hi Leigh, how long have you had yours and what are your first impressions. I think if we start an owners club it wont be very exclusive for long.

I've only had mine for a few days now but I loooooove it! :D First impressions are overwhelmingly positive - my only gripe right now is that I'm waiting for Apple to release raw compatibility for it :/

Well guys, I got it this morning, woken up by the delivery driver before 9Am. Only had time to mess about with the settings so far as I've had to go out, but I'll have a good play with it later. I'll be out shooting within 10 mins of getting home as long as it's not raining. Just got to wait for the grip to come out now.

Just been out to have aplay about, thankfully it was still dry, and first impressions from the first 50 or so photos taken with my 24-105 f4 L are very promising. Light was horrendous but the colours are nice and vibrant, AF is fast and accurate in the outer focus points. Took a few pics indoors of the wife at ISO 6400 and while I can see some noise, it's not as bad as my 7D was at ISO 1600. Very impressed so far, but I'm sure there'll be a lot more testing yet over the next week or so.
