All,

First time using the 1DS Mk II and my Tokina 80-400mm on our recent holiday to Sri Lanka. We got nice and close to this one, both at f8 the first at 360mm and the second at 280mm. I've not done a lot of PP and was interested in seeing how sharp the lens is and I'm quite impressed. Not a patch on my 300mm L f2.8 but much lighter and easier for travelling around.

Interested in your thoughts...

Thanks

I don't like the way the egret / bunch of grass she is about to eat are framed at the bottom of the second photo.

Nice colours on both of them, however I'm not sure on the crop of the first. I think I would liked it more either cropped in tighter on the face or out a little bit more so the ears and head weren't chopped off. As to the egret, I think you could have done with a bit more DOF as it would have been nice if the bird was in focus, however I do like the idea of the small bird trying to steal his food :)

Conversely, I prefer the first as it captures a great expression and shows the ears, trunk and conveys the size.
The second, I'm not a fan of the ear-shadow falling over the eye.

For both however, beautiful light, well captured :)
