hi,
I was moving mine system to new case...
everything went fine but win7 did not load...I could see 2 HHD's( I have 3) , SSD and bluray...

so I switched PC off, and still same thing...dissconnected all cables, and then SSD did not show in BIOS !! I checked all cable combinations...nothing...started machine with only SSD connected, nothing...

Whay can it be ?!?!?!

Now Im in proces sof instaling new system on one partition, hoping that I will be able to restore all files from SSD from Windows....

But what can be the problem ???
Any ideas ???

SSDs with Sandforce Controllers seem to display a high "bricking" rate - I had a corsair one that lasted 36 hours.

The ocz vertex 60gb has a Indilinx Barefoot controller, however it still it doesn't look good. Have you tried all the normal stuff? Making sure the SATA/Power connection is correct? Have you tested the SSD on another PC?

dont have another pc ... what is strange, that when it is connected, it sees only 2hdds...not 3...when i unplug it it sees all 3...

and yes, tried all cables etc ...

What about clearing the CMOS, then restarting with all your drives connected (except for the drive with your new partition)?

have you tried the SSD in different SATA ports (especially the ones that had drives that were getting detected) possible some of your ports died (happened to me before...)

Tried that as well...I had one spare hdd that was not even open(warranty return) and when I connect it, pc does not start lol...
Installed win on one of the other drives..
Have done some Google'ing and it looks like that vortex add' are coming down as fly' s...
I'm losing my hope of getting data from this drive now :(

Why oh why the only drives that die on me, are the ones that I keep photos on....
Not a happy bunny at all...

thats not good ive got a vertex 60gb.. :|

I went through OCZ forums last night and there a quite a few threads with dead ssd's....

keep your backed up....

Im going to order 2x 2TB samsung spinpoints today...any good ?
I will keep my OS on one of the old drives for the moment until I get a new SS....

Can I set some kind of RAID for those 2 new drives with one extra drive as OS drive ? never played with RAID so any help welcome :)

And im going to get one extra external drive as a backup only to be disconnected 99% of time and be connected only for backup...

Hmm. a 60GB SSD is not the best thing for data anyway, they're probably best reserved for stuff you need fast access times to, like the OS and Apps, and you are better off keeping data like photos on a separate HDD.

i think i'll image it when my motherboard comes back then.. lol

the HD203WI 2TB drives? i run them in my NAS. they're only 5.4k rpm but they should be okay.

what RAID level were you thinking of?

I had quite a few photos there for PP ....Photoshop work brilliant with photos on SSD ...

HD204UI them ones http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-097-SA

re RAID do dunno ;) I can always have them connected as normal, and run some synch app to synch data on them ... we do not want mirror do we ;)
with that sort of size youll probably only get an OS and a couple of Adobe products..

needed apps, Photoshop, and some photos ;) and still have enough space left ;p
around 15-20GB ;)

I agree, but surely you kept them on another drive too?

problem is that I havent!

they were recently taken and had no time to sit on them :(

luckily I copied most of the jpg's to a laptop as my missus went home with it and wanted to show them to her parents....so at least I have high res jpg's ...

but why oh why, when my hdd dies it always has to be one with photos on it?????

ah right.. yeah look oaky to me.

well depends what you want? spanned drives, redundancy.. ive got nothing against RAID i use it every day at work, the only problem i have with RAID1 (mirroring) is people using it as a single point of storange and expect it to be backup method :)

what do you mean by spanned drives and redudancy ?

I want something to keep my data as save as I can get it ?
Im open to all sugestions! :)

maybe I should add that I would keep games music etc on those drives as well...if that helps....so no sure if I would need RAID for them....maybe simple sych app would do hmmm ...

spanned - puts the 2x 2tb drives to create 1x 4tb drive. for just 2 drives i would recommend doing this via Windows dynamic disk settings though, used this before on 4x 1tb samsung f1's with no problem.

redundancy - one drive fails the other still works. typically RAID1, although this will not protect you against corruption and/or deletion. you can use a sync program instead (synctoy, allway sync, robocopy) to have a replicated file structure. on some you can set not to delete or overwrite which would be more beneficial in my opinion.

as for having safe data.. my advice is have multiple copies of your data over different media types (hard drives, blu-ray (not DVD) etc) and have at least one copy stored off site (parents, drawer at work etc).

thank you kind Sir :)

I will go for sync program....will try the ones you mentioned :) this way it will be syncing only doc's photos etc and not games...

And yes, I will get one external HDD as a another backup and keep it somewhere away from my PC ;D

no problem, any questions just shout.

i know for a fact with allway sync you can set those options for not deleting files on the 2nd copy, youll have to have a look on the others :)

Can do the same with Synctoy.

i use a synology DS1010+ NAS with RAID5'd Samsung 2TB drives, Icybox eSATA enclosure with Samsung 1TB drive, and a handful of Seagate portable USB drives.

no problems with any so far *touch wood*

never had any experience with buffalo, but one on my list to avoid are maxtor and lacie.

so you are Samsung man ;)

i am thinking about 1TB Iomega 2,5" ....small and needs no external power but it is only usb2.0 ...

I went to return ssd on warranty today..it always makes me laugh when they want to check it by themselves lol like I would not be sure it is dead ..
Anyhow, on my way home now with 2x 2TB and one 1TB samsung drives, icy box,new dvd rw (mine died ages ago) and other small nous and pieces :)
Will be busy transferring everything now...but have to wait for new ssd to reinstall win7...

all drives in place, new 8GB RAM in place ;D

now Im trying to figure it out why once I connect HDD via eSATA, PC does not do anything ... off to RTFM...

sorted;D
had to update AHCI drivers :)

Was going to say (but you have fixed the problem now), that it might have been worthwhile checking for any flex in the motherboard (broken tracks), or the MB shorting to the case. Only mentioned because you moved the MB from one case to another.
Have seen this make items dissappear from servers in the past (had one system, where the MB would work on the bench, but not in the case. Turned out that there some tracks badly arranged, and earthed through the screw holes of the MB. When screwed in, PS/2 clock signal was shorted to ground.
