Morton Lochs near Tayport (ten miles north of St Andrews ) is good for red squirrels, a good variety of waterfowl and small birds (robins, blue tits, long tailed tits, crossbills, woodpecker etc)
As well as Loch Leven, already mentioned, you could also look at Cameron Reservoir, not as spectacular as Loch Leven, but still a good spot, especially as its much nearer to St A, and you will normally get geese returning as its getting dark, as well as other good things. You can get flocks of geese feeding almost anywhere in Fife
