As the World Cup is with us this is a photo on the beach in St Annes on Sea taken in July 1966 when I was visiting relatives there and can just remember watching it in black and white. You can see the pier in the background. Photo taken by my brother

The Lifeboat Monument , it commemorates the death of 13 lifeboatmen from St Annes who were lost in the attempt to rescue the crew of the German barque Mexico that had been driven into a sandbank in a gale in December 1886.
