What is it? Ie I know its a tunnel in a cliff but what was its purpose?

Yep - and it is a very chilling place. It has a long entrance corridor with a right hand bend at end to make it easily defensible should infected break through main door.
All the more scary as in recent years people have purchased spaces in it should we face the threat again.

Well worth a visit!

it sounds well worth a visit, thanks for the info, and couldn't agree with you more about standing where others have stood, and how much longer will we be able to, some of the one's around Dover are getting a bit dangerous, it won't be long before theres a cave in, just hope I'm not inside when they do.

Interesting, have been there myself.

The cliffs along the Kent coast (Dover, St Margarets, Capel) make great shots as theres plenty of WW2 tunnels and buildings
