starter lens for nikon d3000..?? reccomendations please.

a friend has just got one of these as a starter camera, i beleive he has the kit lens with it but he wants more 'zoom'

not knowing much/anything about nikons could some of you nikon bods advise on a good lens that will auto focus on this??

Depends on budget really but I would say at the cheaper end of the spectrum maybe the 55-200mm vr or slightly better and a litter more expensive is the 70-300mm vr.Whatever they decide it will have to be a lens with a motor in else it wont AF on the camera.

just to clarify the above, as you dont know Nikons

good suggestions but to auto-focus on a D3000, the lenses must be designated "AF-S"

the 70-300 VR is a bit large and heavy to "balance" on a D3000

the 55-200 VR - about £160 here - would be perfect, IMO

and the 35mm AF-S makes a lovely "fast" lens for indoors

hey guys its me wes is asking for, dont mind spending a little or maby the same but on second hand.

just found this on ebay and asked if it has built in motor for d3000 looks like it does so might be worth a offer

personally i NEVER deal with eBay sellers who
1..have less than 100% feedback
2..use "stock photos" to show their goods

if it's good enough to sell - it's good enough to put up a photo !!

IMO the price is too low !

your decision though

i'd say its worth a go, the 2 negatives she has are minor things IMO..

cant go wrong, put an offer in for £80

Used a Sigma 100-300 f/4 plus 1.4 tc on a D60 for nearly a year without any handling problems

News: March, 2007: The new, inexpensive Nikon 55-200mm VR is a huge improvement over this lens. I'd suggest it instead.

have to agree - I had a VR and it is very useful at the long focal length

How comes jessops sell the lens for £229 but companys on ebay for £129 does jessops have that much mark up ? or is there something fishy about the sellers of new lenses on ebay

next on the list is a lens for cars when you close as if your too far away people get into shot etc
