Went to Oulton today and as I got ready last night I cheked the battery life. Full bar. Focused a picture, still full. So I thought, GREAT! dont have to charge them. Got to Oulton, took one shot and the betterys died :bang: I swapped them around in the Battery grip and was well for three or so hours, then it died again :(

Ah well.

The moral of the story is - charge the buggers the night before, even if they don't need charged!

Or take a charger with you. I've asked nicely behind the canteen/food place if I could plug in and charge so they'd keep an eye on it.

Can you not get an adapter for it, that allows you to use AA batteries as well ? that way even if all your Canon ones give up, you can just buy some at any shop and carry on.

I don't want to be argumentative but the BG-E3 will work quite happily with just one battery in it! I know 'Cos I had one and often used it with just one when my two other batteries were charging.

I think you'll find that battery grips can take 2 batteries but will quite happily work with just the one

Correctamondo, but it will only work in one side, left or right, i dont know.
Secondly, you can actually take the grip off and use one battery in the camera;)
Still lesson learnt Matt.
Dean:)

Stoopid batteries? Aren't you the one that didn't charge them Matt?

Stoopid Sayle I'd say :D

Only joking mate

For the record my grip works with one battery and it doesn't matter which side of the clip it is.

Losing? Why are we taling present tense? Shouldn't we be talking past tense? LOST, not LOSING

:D

What I find great, on my grip at least, is that it uses one battery and then the other if two fitted, keeping track of the number of shots taken with each and the % charge left in both... so you can be 100% sure of where you stand. And only charge the one that needs it. Is that not the same in the Canon camp?

And what does it say on the instruction sheet that comes with the grip.....Matt?...Maaaatt?

This goes to show, the little differences added to each model of camera DO make a difference in the real world.

My D50 would show full battery life for about 900 shots, then would drop off a cliff to dead within about 60 shots after that.

My D90 shows an exact percentage of the remaining battery life (even per battery, if in the grip), and actually decreases at a consistent rate. Accurate enough that I can take it out with 10% life in it knowing I still have 100 shots out of it no problem.

The future's bright...

Which is what I did before we went to the RAC - and I still ended up having to borrow a battery from you

Ah yes, I remember :)

I was up at the Snowman Rally with Chris Grieve - not sure what it is up with his camera (400D or 450D), but it eats batteries - he went through 3 batteries at least, I was using the same battery all day.! (and took over 2,500 photos as well)
