Hi - does anyone know how I can store my RAW files on my external hard-drive on the Mac? Is the only way by dragging and dropping the files each time? Can I set Adobe Bridge to save onto an external drive?
I currently have a 1TB external hard-drive which at present the Time Capsule program backs up the entire Mac hard-drive onto. I'd like to store just my images on this drive and don't need the Time Capsule to back up the entire hard-drive.

Help please!

Use ChronoSync myself - just configure your image folder on the Mac as Source and the external HD as destination and set a time to synchronise - I set mine to sync overnight - very easy & straightforward.

Are you using time machine to back up the rest of your drive to a different external drive? If not you can exclude everything but your photos in the time machine settings.

I can also recommend Chronosync but it's not free http://www.econtechnologies.com/pages/cs/chrono_overview.html

You could use Backup that is built into OS X too, though I haven't used it for anything myself. Just click spotlight search and type backup. It has a nice wizard to help you through. Just click the little + in the bottom left of the application window to add a backup task.

Cheers for the info - Just downloading a trial version of Chronosync and see how it fares.

Excluding all the other files apart from the photo's might not be a bad idea via Time Capsule though so I'll see how I get on.

I'm a little confused by the OP. Do you want to STORE your files on the external or BACKUP your files from the mac drive to the external.

BACKUP then Time Machine would be my choice, and do the whole drive, once the first backup is done it will only add new stuff like new images.

STORE then if you use EOS Utilty to download from the camera, you can set the destination directory to any volume you wish, I would expect you can do this with Adobe too.

My image are download direct to external fire-wire drive, which is also selected to be backed up via time machine to another fire-wire drive. To be double safe I do a monthly backup to an external USB drive using the free application Silverkeeper from LaCie

I'm just looking to store my photo's onto the external HD and not on the Mac HD so that it doesn't get filled up too quickly. As my external HD is 1TB it should last me a while.

The problem I have, is that I don't know where Bridge saves my images by default. I would like to change this so that Bridge saves all my files to my external HD, thus leaving no images on the Mac HD. I have looked in all the setting but found nothing. I've run out of ideas now! :shake:
