Strange issue with 35mm f/1.4 L

Hi all,

I've got a bit of an odd issue and wonder if anyone had some advice.

I have a number of lenses that focus satisfactorily on both my 1Ds2 and my 1D3.

I recently acquired a 35mm f/1.4 L mainly with a view to using it on my 1Ds2, but thought I might use it as a fast walkaround on my 1D3.

It front-focusses very strongly on the 1D3. Canon Bob was kind enough to let me use his focus align last week and even with maximum adjustment I couldn't get the 1D3 to quite focus on target. I would guess somewhere around +25 or +30 would do the job if it existed!

I've phoned Canon CPS who hadn't got much to say of use other than 'send it in for calibration'. I called CRC who said that I should send it in and they can adjust the 1D3 such that it will not effect the other lenses but recognise the 35L and only offset by the required amount for that lens.

I certainly don't want the 35L to be mucked-up for use on my 1Ds2.

Anyone got any clue why this is going on? I've done a bit of googling and found the occassional reference to issues with the 1D3 + 35L without any clear resolutions.

As a side issue, Bob also has a 35L - that too Front Focussed on my body & it does the same on his 1D3!

Thanks in anticipation,

Phil

I dunno if it helps

I have two 5D's and a 30D, can test it out with mine tomorrow?

My 35L is brand new.

Thanks for offering & I'm interested in your results, but I think it may be a specific issue with 1D3's.

I did test it on one of my 5D and it was fine :)

I dont expect the other one to be any different but will let you know tomorrow. The problem is that i doubt many on here will have the 35/1.4, its a focal range many people will have with the 24-70, so to find someone with a 35L + and 1D3....you are will get more answers if you ask on PoTN as well.

Yeah - I have mentioned it there - not really got any solid answers as to why it happens.
