good morning all
im after your advice please, im pretty new to this fantastic hobby and only have a little amount of kit, i love walking and nature and im trying to combine all these things together so i have a couple of questions for you please
1, When i have my big lens on it gets very heavy and sways all over the place i have looked at the straps that hang down by your side that attach at the bottom of the camera you can pick them up on ebay for approx £5 are they any good ????:thinking::thinking:
2,i have a monopod, when out and about is it best to attach the camera to it with either lens and carry it over my shoulder like a rifle :thinking::thinking:

£5 sounds v cheap to me.

I've used a few different types of those straps now. The Q Strap (http://www.qstrap.co.uk) seems to be popular on this site. I've still got mine and I bought one for my sis-in-law. It does the job well although I did drop a lens once but that was partly my bad because I didn't tighten the caribiner and it must have worked loose.

The Black Rapid strap seems to be the defacto standard but a lot more expensive than either the Q strap or the ones you've seen on ebay.

My favourite at the moment is the Op-tech strap because it's more modular. Using their attachments I can turn connect up a wrist strap or shoulder sling or make it just a normal neck strap. When using my 70-200 & body I can attach it to both meaning no single point of failure.
 
The black rapid ones are pretty good (bit more than £5 though), there's loads of threads on them on here. If you have a big lens its best to attach it to the tripod mount (assuming it has one?).

If i take my Siggy out on the monopod i tend to attach it to the lens and carry it over my shoulder.
 
Well the strap looks good to me. At £3.79 I'd be tempted to buy it and give it some good stress testing before attaching it to my gear.

One thing to remember is to always tighten the nut on the caribiner so it can't accidentally open and drop your gear!
 
Yeah the strap will probably be ok, id like to see the quality of the caribiner and the swivel on it, that may end up being the week point.

What size lenses are you talking about carrying?
 
I have this strap and am very happy with it. It is a little bulky though. It is very very similar to ones being sold by various UK sellers at a significantly higher price.
 
Somewhere on the forum is a report of a Q-strap's carabiner clip failing, sending an expensive camera groundwards. As with most things in life, you tend to get what you pay for.
 
You will not go far wrong with the Optech combinations. I have both Q Strap and Optech. My preference is Optech.
 
I carry a 150-500 using a Black rapid strap, yes it is more expensive, but like Nod mentions, there are threads about where people straps have broken, sending there expensive camera gear crashing to the floor. I also have a Quick release plate fitted to the lens and my monopod has a tilt head on it so I can quickly attach and remove it from the 'pod.
