Strap suggestions please

.Ime looking for one of these over the shoulder type straps to carry my D7000 and sigma 120-400,there is a lot of good advice on the top of the range models that are comfortable for a 4-6 hour jaunt.The thing is though that sort of time period is way beyond any thing i can do so looking for something cheaper for a max walk time of two hours and less,which i don't do all that often anyway,i am finding that holding the unit even for one hour while walking is getting too much,and adversely effecting what little hand holding capability i have.
Any advice would be welcome.

I have a Black rapid sport strap, have it a few year now. I have back trouble, done it in working in a steel factory - I have used the strap to carry a D800 + 300mm lens with TC on. Attaching the strap to the collar on the lens itself. I've carried it about for a few hours here and there, and because the weight is on your hip and shoulder, it takes the strain off your back and neck, I find.
 
Thanks the black rapid gets no argument from me as being one of the best but the limited use i will give it means i was hoping to spend less,if that idea fails then i will go with the black rapid
 
I have just bought an optech sling strap, only tried it once but pleased so far.....

Whilst being prepared to pay black rapid prices if needed that is more in the region i was looking for.
 
I also bought some small system connectors so that I could unclip the sling strap part and connect these to the neoprene bit and use over my shoulder if I preferred. Haven't tried these as yet so cant report either way.
 
I have an OPTech sling strap too. Love it but it's best used with one of the ring fasteners so you can attach it to the tripod mount.

Reason is that if you use the mounting points on the camera the Optech strap gets in the way when you try to take a portrait photo.

Thats what i need attach it to the lens tripod foot
 
I'm very pleased with the Optech Sling strap. Much more comfortable than the normal neck strap.
 
The connectors & clips are actually stronger than they look. I've attached my strap to 6kg of weight then bounced it around and a single connector held it comfortably. I even made a video of it which if I wasn't too embarrassed I'd show you lol

yeah i had that, i just recently had a play about and my current plan to fix that is to get some more of the webbing? type connector and use them at a short length to get the portraitability back

if you go with a tripod screw mount then either get a plate that screws on, or a sunsniper style one, where the strap can freely swivel around, if it cant rotate it can end up coming loose which is bad..

Another Op Tech option is the Dual Harness, which also works well with just a single body attached.

One other option if you use a backpack are the Optech connectors that attach to the rucksack straps http://www.amazon.co.uk/TECH-Reporter-Backpack-System-Connectors/dp/B0010HA68I
I have been using them lately and found them to be excellent with the weight being borne by the body via the rucksack rather than the neck.

Also have the sling mentioned above which is also very good, but I carry the rucksack most of the time so using that method more often than not

Been to look but they where waiting for stock on one make so haven't decided yet,did walk out with a D700 though think i may be in deep doo doo :nikon:
 
I've got a couple of Q-Straps, as advertised on the forum, and they are excellent. I've carried a gripped 5D3 with Sigma 150-500 OS on them all day without any problems. I've also carried a 70-200 f2.8L IS II with 2x MkIII converter and a gripped 70D on the other and still no problems with that either. They are comfortable to wear over the shoulder for long periods and the connectors are strong enough to carry the load easily. I've had the large plates and the much smaller round connectors and the smaller ones are more comfortable for me.
 
Used Black Rapid straps (RS-7 and Sport) for the last couple of years and wouldn't dream of going back to the stock strap.
Was looking at the Q straps first, but me being the ultra cautious type, i didn't like how thin the metal was on their connectors! (in their defence, i've never heard of one failing!)
Have a really bad back and sling straps make carrying a heavy set up much less strain.

i also use these optech adaptor loops;

and connect them through the Black Rapid strap to act as a safety backup should the BR connector fail.
