Street lamps. Annoying or what?

Not just street lamps either. Traffic lights and more or less anything else on a pole. I find it very difficult to capture a street scene or an old building in a town or city due to bloody things on poles! How do you go about it? I don't really want to get into the habit of shopping out poles otherwise I'd be there all week.

Recent example - I wanted to capture an image of the Leeds City Hall which is a fantastic looking building. I could not find a single angle where there wasn't a dirty great big traffic light or street lamp taking up half the view.

Annoying as chuff. :bang:

What do you guys do about this kind of thing?

I suppose chucking black hoods over the lights would not be a good idea? I have a slightly different problem in that one of my bedrooms would need VERY heavy blackout curtains as it has a streetlamp lighting it from 2 sides so it would be almost impossible to use it for sleeping in and other than taking the bulb out of the light I don't see an answer.

I suppose you could try writing to the council and saying they could be greener and save money if they did not use as much lighting in the city center

Reading that I'm glad I am not interested in getting pictures of buildings.

Is it the light source, or the pole itself?

There's a train of thought to say that if they are there, they should be represented in the picture....

The poles themselves as opposed to the lights. I'll just have to find a better angle for it.

Oh yes do I know what you mean.... It is either street signs or cars in the way what a pain. When I am in charge I won't let cars or street signs anywhere near a lovely building.

Jenny.
