Im going to be going into town on thursday to try some street photography, I havent really done it before so Im just wondering what equipment I'll need?

cheers

Camera, lens, battery, memory card.

A good lens would be something like a 24-70 or 50 prime. Don't go out there with a 200mm lens as people will think you're up to something. Something fairly short and discreet would be better imo.

I'd rather go out with just one lens to be totally honest.

With your suggestions I either have 17-85 IS or a nifty, what would you recommend?

cheers

Well if it's your first time I'd say take the 17-85 as it's more flexible. But to really separate the subject and for more creativity (with regards DOF) I would take the 50mm.

HTH

My personal favourite is a 50mm. Problem with a 70-200 s you'll stick out like a sore thumb from 20 yards away a lot more than from 5 yards with a smaller lens. Te art of street is to blend in and not get noticed, fat chance of that with a big white lens.
Me..blend in..:lol:

Spot on. 70-200 will get you noticed - not always for the right reasons sadly.

Bearing in mind the size of the two lenses at your disposal, I'd just take both.

So that makes your list of what you need as follows;

Camera, battery, lenses, memory card and a big set of balls.
