I'm one of the organisers of the OTHER Bristol group which is why I asked.
Just wondering if anyone else wanted to join us for a monthly shoot. We've had 3 successful ones so far.

Try a searching for a Flickr group Martin, you may find what your looking for
Welcome to to TP BTW, the majority of our members are friendly and very helpful, any questions you have, fire away good sir. I'd be happy to assit in any way I can.
We have a fairly healthy atmosphere ripe with useful tips and technique, don't be afraid to post photo's for criticism and advice and be sure to pass on the friendly courtesy to others.
P.S, It won't do you any harm to ignore the texts of Whiney the POAH.
Minus POAH's photo's (which are good) you'll not miss anything by skimming over his contributions. To summarize any post without an image is simply complaining and moaning.

Hi Thomas. I'm not a member of Flickr but have read some stuff there. The Stobist movement seems popular which is why myself and a few others have started regular meets. We call ourselves the Bristol Strobists, but the Flickr group was there 1st.
Anyway, I'm waffling. Good to know there are other Strobists out there not afraid of manual off-camera flash.
Oh and thanks for the link, I now get the idea. Interesting that he's complaing about the term `Strobist' when he doesn't understand "its" and "it's".

POAH why add to this post if it upsets you? The term is here .... just accept it.

I think POAH was just being a bit cheeky and topical with his comment - nowt wrong with that. Strobism is a bit of a poncy word though; if strobist.com wasn't mentioned so often on here we'd all still be calling it flash photography...
Anyway, that's my totally unhelpful post

The OP asked a question, Whiney's reply was not cheeky or topical, it was stuck up irrelevance that didn't offer any help, it's simply 1st degree trolling.
It's not the first and I dare say it won't be the last. If you scan through a few of POAH's responces you'll agree that 'help' or anything over one line that could be interpretted as helpful is not the conclusion you will arrive at
.I mean this in a very tongue in cheek manner so please don't be offended.
I really don't think anyone cares if you have a problem with a word or not, if you think it sounds silly or poncey then dedicate a thread to it in the off topic section or something, you guys can have your own club for words that annoy you and leave the rest of us who couldn't give a flying one at a rolling doughnut out of it.

Well said Thomas. Strobist is a recognised term for the act of Off Camera Flash Photography, people think if they shout loud enough, then everyone will step into their little line.

Very unwelcome it was aswell :razz:..... (Another sign that TP is losing it ...methinks ..seems like the regulars tend to close ranks at the merest hint of others not sitting back and taking some of the unhelpful comments .....)
still good day to you ....... I'll use the strobist word as much as I like nothing 'poncy' about it at all. The technique of 'strobism' defines much more than just off camera flash ...it is also using that light in a creative way ...by refelectors....multiple ...flashguns .....etc IMHO. Anyone can take a flashgun off camera ..... not everyone can claim to do 'strobism' ..... me included...... I'm sure POAH is very thankful of your support now lets allow the OP's thread to continue ...... in a helpful and positve way.
