I am thinking of trying a bit of studio and landscape photography.
Can you give me some advice please what lens/lenses I would need. I will be using a Canon 7D. I already have a Canon 70-200 2.8 IS. I was thinking of the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f3.5-4.5 USM for landscape and the Canon EF 24-105mm f4 L IS USM for in the studio.

Hi David

Canon EF-S 10-22mm is a fine choice for your landscapes on your 50D/70D but remember it will be no good on your 1D Mark2N although you probably know that.

24-105 f4 is a lovely sharp lens that will obviously fit all your bodies - I'd question the width for landscapes with no full frame body and perhaps the f4 for studio.

24-70 f2.8 is an obvious solution if you want a bit of both to use on all your bodies but it's a tricky question without knowing which body you want to use or how wide you want your landscapes.

The Canon 17-40 f4L can be had for a good price and for landscapes (tripod and f11 etc) offers a reasonable width on your croppers whilst also offering a bit more width on your 1D2 but not still not really wide compared to Canon 10-22 or Sigma 10-20 etc unless you were using it on a full frame body.

EF-S 15-85 and the EF-S 17-55 f2.8 are worth looking at but again (being EF-S) it's difficult because of not knowing what body you're planning to use.

Also - for landscapes, consider weather sealing on the 15-85, 17-55 & 10-22 although on cropped bodies the same applies.

I will only be using the 7D. The way I see it the 10-22 EFS is actually 10-22 on a crop body, The 24-105 EF on a crop body is 38-168 so with those 2 lenses I will be able to cover 10-168mm.

You still have to multiply the 10-22 by 1.6 when used on a crop. It still has the equivalent field of view (approx) as a 16-35mm on a full frame body.

Agreed. Which is exactly what I said! I was referencing the OPs calculations and the fact the crop factor still needs to be taken into the equation on crop lenses.

Equivalent to 35mm, field of view, yes.
