studio lighting

Ok so I'm looking to get some studio lighting, iv never used anything like this so I have no clue as to what I need. Could someone please point out some stuff I will need?

I will be using it for portraits.

I'd suggest booking yourself onto a studio lighting workshop/model evening before you decide on getting your own lights. There are quite a few studio's around the Birmingham area that offer training.

Cost varies significantly depending on the skill of the tutor, subjects and level covered, number of delegates, etc. Anywhere between £50 to £500 per day, I guess.

Cheapest twin light set up probably £250, for stands, lights & brollies. I got some for shots at work, they aren't great but do the job, I'm not a fan of studio shots though.

I hired some once and they were alot better, probably alot more expensive though.
