I've been asked if I want to go on a studio shoot by someone, its not a thing that I've done, or thought I would interest me, but why not? and as I only started photography just as a retirement hobby in the spring, my equipment is not excessive, I have just bought a couple of longer lenses, (70x300 & 55x250)to go with a kit lens (Canon 18x55is)
I have not had reason to go into flashes but I think I may need one of some kind or another, as I only have my pop up on the camera, don't want to spend a awful lot of money, but I want to get one that will do the job as I suppose I will use it from time to time after, also would it pay to invest £70/90 on a nifty fifty. I do have a tripod..........any ideas

A "studio shoot" is generally a shoot with studio lights (not on camera flash). Do you mean using normal flash like a 430EX or 580EX II?

Good point, thanks, I need to look into this a little more....should have done that before I asked the question...sorry

For the studio shoot you will not require a flash. (Assuming it’s a well kitted out establishment with studio lights) You should be given a radio trigger that sits on the hot shoe of your 450D and this will fire the studio lighting every time you take a photo.

The nifty fifty would work well in a studio setting,

I hope you enjoy your shoot
