I think the harsh shadow detracts from this shot, at the angle taken..
Like the idea, and composition... just lacks "something" for me!!!
 
I like the use of the B&W with the dried rose, but I agree about the harsh shadow
 
have to agree about the shadow, potential is there though definately
 
I think the shadow is more of a problem on the black and white image than the colour one, but apart form that, they are lovely shots, just need a little minor adjustment in softening that shadow....further away from the light source perhaps? :shrug:
 
I think to get a softer shadow I'd have to move the subject away from the background. The light was all natural, and these were taken with the flower resting on a sheet of white paper on a table-top so were shot top-down.
 
I prefer the colour one, it helps to separate the rose from the shadow. A reflector would have been good to just take the edge off the shadow slightly, but otherwise I really do like this.
 
Oooh thanks - I like Maplins, and things that cost under a tenner ;o)
