Dont you just ****ing hate stupid photograpghy competitions run by retarted companies where the public votes are counted and used as qualifying :cuckoo: :bang:

Example is this one promoted here:

http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=291805

This one allows you to promote your own pics. the one with the most votes then gets judged by the powers to be and is in with a chance winning the big prize.

Looking through the pics some of the entries are crap and yet fnd themselves with over 500 votes. Obviously through facebook and friends voting:

The above pic. Seriously, over 500 votes? :cuckoo:
Even one of the comments say it is a crap pic.

You would have thought Alan Watson (whoever the hell he is) being a photographer (never even heard of him) would have the IQ (which he is clearly hasn't) would realise that this is a receipe for going tits up as people recruit friends to vote for their rubbish pics :cuckoo:

So dear Alan, hope you enjoy the voting, you ****.

Rant over :)

The phantom tree snapper George has at least 2 other photos in the top 10. So his photos are clearly ALL dead good and that. Right?

I have a similar beef. This isn't really a photography competition, but works in the same way. My wife's cousin took a nice picture, with a P&S camera:

I actually think it's really quite good. But there are some well rubbish pictures with way more votes just because people have more Faceahe friends or whatever.

I guess that's the nature of the public vote though now?

What does it really matter?

If anyone ever canvasses me for votes - I never oblige on the principle that if people have to do that to win, then it's not worth winning.

Yeah, it's annoying. But the companies that do these competitions are not trying to find the best photograph they are trying to promote their brand. That's why they do it. So they don't care what photo wins, they just want as many people as possible to beg friends and friends of friends to vote. And on the facebok ones, of course you have to 'like' the page before you can vote.

Then get your own back. Take a picture of a turd, enter it and get as many people as you can to vote for it.

Too blunt and unsubtle.

If you want to make a point with a touch of style, photograph some coprolite and submit that!

You seriously don't know who Albert Watson is?

Do agree that the "Vote for My image" and the fact that you can submit entries late so they are all running for different lengths of time doesn't really make it a serious competition.

It's a competition run a a company with obvious commercial interest, what did you expect?

Just a real shame that you seem incapable of putting your point across without childish personal insults

Don't see a problem myself, as photography is subjective, who are any of us to say what is a good or a bad photograph. What you may want out of a photo is not necessarily what I want.

Never heard of him. But clearly he has no integrity or he wouldn't be involved in such rubbish. Chasing the cash and publicity I guess.

Have a word with yourself mate....

So what, a company uses a photography competition as a branding exercise and there are some shots that aren't to your liking. A picture of a tree ain't my cup of tea either. Might be to someones taste though. Not all photographs will float our respective boats - just look at our own TP POTY comp, not keen on some of the shots that get the votes but it doesn't mean I'm right (or wrong) though. It's totally subjective....

I would have thought it was obvious the difference between comps here and the one running over there.

Here you have to register and be a member to vote. Over there, the whole aim to is to get friends, family and work collegues to vote and no registration is required. Subjective has nothing to do with it. They are voting because he is a friend, family or work mate.

You do realise its not actually a photography competition don't you? It could just as easily be a "judge my boobs" or "rate my poo" competition! The subject matter means nothing.

Its about getting your name out there, people post pics, then tell everyone on the internet to vote for them. You've just told 500 more people about your product for the price of a bottle if whiskey :D

But I just don't see a problem. So what if whoever gets whoever to vote for whatever.....people votes for many reasons on a whole host of matters.

Going back to what you said about TP, I'd hope that people are voting for the best image each month but so what if we have to register - you can vote for whatever you want and with any motive in mind.....

The only sure thing about any vote is there's a result at the end.

Just had a quick look...... The winning shot is really quite good.
