Last night I took a trip out with the intention of taking some longish exposures and perhaps try to get some pictures to convert to HDR i.e. be using my tripod for all shots.

So we traveled around 20 miles, then trekked down to a beach and I began to set up, went to mount the camera on the tripod and realised I didn't bring the damn adaptor (i've now got this sitting in the tripod, were it will only be moved to screw onto the camera). Absolutely RAGING I stormed off to the car, slipped and twisted my ankle, now I can just about walk. :bonk: Still quite gutted as the sky was pretty decent last night. Just wondering if anyone else has been a complete plonker while out trying to get some pictures?

I once travelled 80 miles to the sea the day after Boxing Day when it was -5 degrees for sunrise, got to the beach and discovered my tripod mounting plate wasn't with me :bonk:

Fortunately the tripod screwed to the camera, so adjustment was made by sinking the legs into the sand

Overall - it wasn't worth the trip

I always leave my adapter on the tripod itself, as I have done the same myself- was in Paris and went to take some long exposures etc. doh!

Everyone I would think in some shape or form.

I went on the evening portrait shoot with near flat batteries for my flash :bonk: I have forgotten stuff like my wide angle lens. The memory card fortunately I have not forgotten as I only have the one and it stays in the camera all the time :)

I'm sure I will forget the memory card one day while it is still safe at home in the camera

Ohh BTW I have misplaced my adaptor for my tripod at the moment rendering my tripod totally useless.

Glad I'm not the only one :D I had actually said to myself earlier in the day "Steve, seriously - remember to grab the adaptor since you'll be taking the tripod" DOH

Perhaps I should start attaching post-its to the back of my hands before going out.

;)yep - flat batteries in camera, yep - no batteries in flash, forgotten memory cards too. Now I check and double check the camera bag before I go out of the front door - then check again in the car:'(

Hope you make a speedy recovery!

I have done things that are silly, but a bit more complex. For example, being cold stops my movement in my limbs and I love wintery night shots, so I have to wrap up warm (or try to!) I've gone out with the camera, the right lens, the shutter release cable...and stupidly cheap gloves. By the time I get to where I'm going, even before hubby puts the tripod up, my hands are so bad from the cold that I have no movement.

More normal silly things include....

Going out for long exposure shots without the shutter release cable.

Another one was doing light trails on a bridge...only I didn't realise how bouncy the bridge was and people were walking across it.

Not weighting the tripod in a light wind is another one...

Ah the list is endless

I keep my tripod clamp on my camera now, nothing worse than having everything but that little bit that you really need...

I once went out happy snapping, then after a few shots, thought I'd have a quick chimp, only to realise there wasn't a CF card in! :bang:

Since then I've turned off the option of being able to press the shutter without a CF card in...

Ha, I've done that one... Luckily I was only shooting birds in the garden, but I did miss great shot of a Pied Wagtail that actually stood still for about 30 seconds..... :bonk:

I guess everybody will inevitably do it once! Great to know I'm not alone! LOL

everything i own that can have a quick release plate fitted has one fitted...........after a very similar episode.

Well, I do some dance show shoots, and i was well up for this one, got there setup............ and then realized i had two flat batteries in my grip and the spares wouldn't last the shoot, got my son to bring my charger from home (its only bout 1/2 mile, stuck the 2 flat batteries on charge and kept swapping them during the dancers changeovers.... managed to get through the shoot, but ALWAYS check my bag now lol, hope you ankle gets better soon

Yep, been there, done that. It was when I bought my 70-200, removed the plate from my cam and put it on the lens foot plate.
Next outing did not take the lens with me, went to mount the camera and..........:bonk:
Immediately sent off for 4 plates and with a spare CF card it sits in the pouch on my camera bag. (there is also one in the car).

Yep, last week went out with two cameras (60 mile round trip), only to find each battery in each camera nearly flat and I'd left the fully charged spares in the other camera bag at the hotel. :)

If we didn't laugh, we'd cry, right?

Thanks for the stories so far - keep 'em coming!

I think tripod-adaptors, memory-cards and batteries are the most-often FUBARs...

Most can be overcome by having spares - but hardly anyone would have spare tripod adaptors...

I was tempted to get one, and then have 1 attached to each camera for different shots (with different lenses), then I saw what manfrotto wanted for one, geez.

Some idiot got an ERR message on his D300 this morning whilst on a riverbank, he disconnected the TC and lens, wiped the conatcts and put it all back together,no difference.

Only then did the clown notice he had knocked the aperture lock off by accident and the aperture had moved off F32.

Can`t think what sort of a moron would do that..............:whistling:

Isn't the entire point of a quick fit tripod adapter that it remains on the camera, thus facilitating the aforementioned quick fits?

If you take it off all the time, you might as well have bought a tripod without the quick fit head....

I cant see a reason to remove it.

Lordy, what happens if you have more than one camera?

Leave the plate on the tripod head and fit to a b0dy as you need to.................

I can go one better! I carefully packed my bag and all my accessories - lenses, lens hoods, tripod, reflectors, memory cards, spare batteries, Gorillapod, cleaning stuff, waterproof cover - even the manual, in case I got stuck.

Yes, you guessed it...I left the camera at home!

Luckily I hadn't gone too far before I realised the mistake!

Don't think I have forgotten anything going to shoot, but I have left my tripod behind :-(. That turned out to be costly mistake.

In film days. I spent three hours getting to a remote Common Seal haul out. Then spent ages crawling in close enough for good shots with a 300mm lens. Took several shots & the frame counter went to 36 then 37,38,39 etc.
NO FILM IN CAMERA!!
One day I may return.

Not whilst out and not my stupidity (so might be slightly OT!!) but, just as I saw the light re using a tripod and was meant to be next in line for the OH's 'old' one since I'd just bought him a new Manfrotto, he decided he couldn't find the quick release plate. He (supposedly) searched EVERYWHERE for it, spent HOURS scouring the house and could NOT find it. So, I decided to invest in one of my own (I am a budget gal as not exactly a great tog deserving of an expensive tripod...yet) and he criticized every choice I made.

Anyway, long story short (too late, I know) he 'found' it at the bottom of the tripod case.

Net result - lost opportunities and an annoyed woman at him! Poor him. Anyway - his stupidity.

I have !! I have 2 tripods, plus I bought a spare. One on the body, one on a lens, and one in bag. It won't be happening to me (again)

one lives on the tripod, one lives on the 120-300 (same plate as the monopod) and a spare is screwed to the 70-200.

i always have at least one of those lenses with me if for some reason the tripod one is missing.

no i wasnt a boy scout.. i was a beaver though :geek:

mmmm...beaver.....:naughty:

i did a shoot once with my white balance set to tungsten. i shoot raw now (not everything was lost, but i prob took about 50 pics before i noticed)

i've also stuck my battery in charger, expecting it to be charged and the damn thing wasn't plugged in.

it's reassuring to note that we've all done silly things like this!

hee hee.. that one made me laugh!

lugged my tripod to galway on holiday.. traisped round all day, freezing new years eve waiting for the sun to set... finally.. set up, and yep.. remembered the adaptor was still sitting back home on the fireplace!

similar.. at the cliffs of moher, fabulous stormy sky and wonderful light.. couple of shots and the battery died..

lost count of the amount of times I forget the SD card is still stuck in the laptop.. am a dozy mare!
