Hi,

I fancied a new strap and wanted something a bit cooler than a "CANON" strap ;)

Been looking around but cant find that much. Anyone know of anyone good place to buy one?

Found this one on amazon which looks ok, I like how I can strap it to my backpack too but one of the reviewers stated the metal clips could scratch equipment. Anything similar which looks stylish and quality as well?

Blackrapid?
Not uber cool, but functional and good quality.

Thanks, they look ok but just standard black and a little geekish utilitarian if you dont mind me saying.

Looking for something a bit exciting/different/patterned

A Nikon one? :)

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Seriously though, I switched to a q strap system a few weeks ago and wouldn't want to back to a conventional neck strap now. I wouldn't call it stylish but it is a big upgrade.

haha loving the posts! ;)
NIKON

oh and what do people think to the straps that connect to the tripod mount instead?
They are advertised as being an innovative upgrade

Id rather be comfortable and utilitarian than styish and in agony but there we are.

The blackrapid connect to the tripod mount.

TBH, if you ask on a forum principally frequented by gear obsessed geeks, what do you expect :)

Just a thought :) probably some people here are more interested in style rather than function ;)

I think this "pimp my camera" idea I have will take some more planning than the time I have before my holiday though :(

I emailed Joby yesterday, to see about the new sling strap they have. Just waiting for a reply back.

I know exactly where you are coming from, and after an extensive search I came to the conclusion there is currently nothing in the UK of adequate quality for me. The only UK option I found that looked promising was John Fitzhenry - but the product still needs some time to mature before I think it is worth the premium price.

I also came across the phatstraps site and there are a couple of the non-garish ones on that site that I really like. They look well made too, which is a bonus.

Yes, the optech straps are excellent, as are blackrapid. But they just don't cut it when you want to be a bit image concious.

it depends what your willing to pay but you could always get one handmade ,maybe in leather

Try www.myfunkycamera.com its an American company
I know the lady who runs it she is a star and has a lot of funky straps
They have a bit of life to them
Very often she does world wide free shipping

You could always try making your own unique strap (or get someone you know well to do it for you ;) ) - here's some Instructable instructions for a similar strap to the ones linked above.

Here's an old and not very good 'thin' strap I made from paracord. Too thin for heavy gear worn around the neck for anything but a few minutes, but you get the idea.

I use one of these. I tend to wrap the strap around my wrist rather than hang it around my neck so being more flexible and thinner suits my use.

The TP branded strap is made by optech - not sure if they do any funky coloured ones? They're extremely comfortable, making walking around all day with a D700 and Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 possible.

They do do other colours than black - also in red, green, two shades of blue, camouflage, grey and purple.

P.S. Mine is green :)

The funky cameras link I put up
They have 12% off and world wide free postage at the min

I've got a couch guitar strap one

Have just ordered a new camera strap, these are unique, handmade and extremely hard wearing and comfortable. They are also vegan, good if you don't do leather.

I first used them about 5 years ago for a couple of guitar straps - these are still going strong, even after all the abuse they get.

What's wrong with those? I'd have that Space Invaders one, if I didn't already have a massively sexy strap on my camera.

It's identical to the vintage ones I have, but has a modern fitting rather than the big metal clip (which would have fell right across the top LCD). Slightly wider than a stock strap, and lined with some kind of mock velvet.

I followed the link - those straps look like they'd be just the job for man-boobs too :D

women's seem to get in the way too

Didn't realise etsy was such a massive store with mostly unique and handmade items! I HAVE FOUND MY SOURCE :)
Also some really nice iPhone cases ;)

SORTED

It's fab in there, my only problem is I can't narrow my selection down so still not bought anything
