Dear forum,

What would you recommend as a sub £500 laptop suitable for running Photoshop CS etc...

I have a large monitor and lots of storage so it's really about the processing power I think.

Would you recommend Athlon or Intel processors?

Thanks in advance.

Intel Dual Core is what I have on my processing laptop, seems to do the trick for me when Im away from my main station  couple that up with 4gb memory and im sorted

Thanks Dave. I have Intel Dual Core at the moment, and bought specifically for business programming/database type work, but it a little dated and wanted to ungrade my hobby PC.

its amd not athlon, athlon is a model of amd processor that was phased out some time ago :)

to be honest it doesnt really matter but you want at least 2 cores in either flavour.

Thanks Neil. Yes AMD ... less haste more speed when typing :) The whole athlon, turon (?) thing confused me, though I seemed to understand the Pentium, celleron, 'centrino' thing better.

I know a little while ago certain processors were considered better for some things and not for others. I've always stuck with Intel for business, hence my question now.

if youre looking to upgrade from a dual then it has to be a quad.. the intel q9550 is great bang for your money.

the whole amd/intel thing is a bit swings and roundabouts these days. personally all my machines are intel (1x Q9550 2.85 quad, 1x E2200 2.2 dual, 1x P8600 2.4 dual centrino), but i hear good things about amds quads too. but obviously if youre keeping your base machine thatd mean a motherboard swap. whereas the dual and quad share the LGA775 socket type. (unless you want the newer i5/i7 processors).
