Hi all,

I have the following:

Canon 400D with 2 batteries
Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4.5
Sigma 150mm Macro
Canon 'Nifty Fifty' F1.8
Sigma 10-20mm
Sigma 70-300mm APO (I don't like this lens)

More recently I have only been interested in landscape and portriat/fashion photography, and that is where I want to concentrate my efforts.

By selling all of the above and perhaps adding another £300-400 on top, what would everyone suggest I upgrade to?
I would love something like a 40/50D, and some really decent L series glass. Happy to sit on an 'all round' L series Lens and a decent body and then add more glass in the future.

I just want a better body with a seriously sharp lens which would be flexible enough for portrait and landscape work :)

Many thanks for any suggestions. If you coudl suggest how much I could get for each of the above that would be great. All come boxed, not sure on actuations for the 400D though.

EDIT: Oh, and I don't mind one bit buying 2nd hand :)

Used 5D or 1ds mk1 to get the full frame sensor (great for landscapes, but also has wonderful tones that produce very pleasing portaits) and either a 24-70 Canon (if you're feeling flush) or the Sigma equivalent.

There's not much that won't do, in your chosen fields!

Cheers,
James

Thanks for the suggestion. The 5D looks a good bet but I would love to get a model with a 3inch LCD, although I know that is a very minor thing :)

Do you think I'll get much for the kit I listed above?

Probably an ideal kit for you (thinking of landscapes/portraits) would be a 5D MKII with a 24-70 F2.8 lens, it would cover most of your bases.

A pro body would probably be overkill, but a 40D with a 24-70 would be a reasonable option?

I am totting up various things I own which I could sell and it looks like I might be able to get about £1000-1500. A 5D MkII would be a dream to have but I really don't think I will be able to afford it unfortunately unless I can find a well priced 2nd hand one.

I think the 40D with a 24-70 is looking the most likely option right now :)

ScarySquirrel,

Don't want to see an image of you!!!

To bring this back to your requirements. A used 40d in excellent condition will cost approx £450. A 70-200 f4 L will cost about £465 plus postage from Kerso (this is the non image stabilisation lens) but keeps within your budget. You will then have some change!!!

John

Ok cool. I may well sell the Sigma 10-20 (even though I like Landscapes I don't really use the lens that much) and the 150mm Macro, on top of some other non-photographic kit to fund this then :)
