Yes
ive got a basic pair of speedlight stands but with my softbox or with using the 360 they wobble and are not stable at all ! i dont want to end up buying something similar... any recomendations that wont break the bank ?

I weight mine with a couple of small dumbell weights sprayed black. It supports a 60 x 60 softbox and a reflector with both arms at full stretch. This is a picture of the base with weights, I can take further pics of it if you think this will help.

Plus one for the above ^^^^^

I do exactly the same thing on my stands with no problems.

On my larger stands I just tie a larger weight on with cord.

It's the size of the footprint that makes for good stability. These Lencartas are good and solid, £30 http://www.lencarta.com/studio-lighting-shopfront/general-purpose-lighting-stands?product_id=264

These Photomart Premium stands are even better, £38. The spigot can be fitted either vertical or horizontal, which is handy http://shop.photomart.co.uk/lightin...ment/lighting-stands/light-stand-jb-3000.html
They end up at £52.50 once their handling charge and VAT has been added

Try weighting the stands with weights/sandbags/2 litre bottle of water & establish if it's a flimsy stand or just needs the weight.

If it's a new stand you need keep your eyes on ebay for s/h manfrotto/bowens/elinchrom ones as generally they're far more solid than modern Chinese copies & about the same cost.

How do you manage to get the weights on to the pole

Ive got sandbags but they take up more room than the weights
