suggest tripod quick release?

I need a quick release for my tripod. It will probably have to be a generic one because

1) the tripod I am using at the moment is old and I assume there won't be a specific one for my tripod / camera combo!

2) I will probably upgrade tripods in a few months!

So...... can anyone please suggest a robust generic quick release that comes tried and tested!?

Mine is a Gitzo CF with a Manfrottoe 410 geared head (3 way) it has it's own quick release but I want something that is more universal and I can leave on all my cameras if I want and not have to keep changing the plates.

My other tripod is a Benbo Mk1 with a Manfrottoe pistol grip Ball head, this also has its own quick release, but it is different to the other one.

I have also ordered an L bracket for my 1DsMk3 and this will then fit both tripods without mesing around.
